4CMBG was potent, even though unloved for many years by budget cutters. It was also all-volunteer and very well-trained, in all trades, with a solid core of excellent NCOs. The air-sea transportable formation (CAST) for Norway was very nearly a fantasy. Its one serious formation exercise proved a disaster. Sadly, the wishful thinking of Canadians getting somewhere quickly from Ontario or Alberta has continued, making the current Latvian commitment the very thinnest of trip wires indeed. The battalion commitment to ACE Mobile was a partial exception, where several excellent senior officers had made a demonstrable difference.

The sentence about the Canadians and the French refers to the forces already in Europe and nothing more 🙂

A couple of comments.
Not quite so relevant to the WP OOB but will the rest of the US 1st ID(M) be present for non surprise scenarios?
Second, and possibly. more relevant here, have you thought about including 1-2 forward detachments for first echelon divisions in the WP OB? Reinforced battalion groups operating in advance of the main body were widely discussed at the time as a potential Soviet doctrinal innovation. In game terms they would seem to offer the WP an interesting additional bit of flexibility, especially in the covering force battle.
